I am guessing it is because the CUPS system has been replaced in the OS. Unfortunately I have forms that now need to be printed to paper and then scanned, which is very wasteful. ![]() Installing the latest patched version of MacOS broke the utility I use for printing to PDF from applications that don't use the Apple print system and select a Print to PDF option from the print dialog. See How to Downgrade macOS High Sierra and macOS Reversion- How to Downgrade from High Sierra. or a bootable USB flash drive installer.a copy of the original installer for the older system that was downloaded from the App Store. You will need a backup of the older system that you can clone to the startup volume. They work for any version of OS X, namely, you must do an Erase and Install, what some call a Clean Install. Read these links about how to downgrade OS X. The developer is behind the upgrade curve. This has been a common problem with VIPRiser over the years, and the reason I stopped using it years ago. If you have applications that do not use the built-in Print dialog, then perhaps see if the developers have upgraded their software or look for replacement software. You accomplish this using the Print Dialog's PDF dropdown menu. I have been printing to PDF for years using the built-in printing system of macOS - CUPS. I could be mistaken and at any rate, I cannot find any notes from long ago.Any ideas? It is very frustrating to have this kind of issue reducing the usefulness of an expensive piece of equipment.Bill FrazierPS: The fact that the only "Product" choice for MacBook Pro is "Mountain Lion" is idiotic and may be indicative of reasons for current and likely future problems. My recollection is that it was not due then to printer problems per se, but to permissions problems with the Printers folder and its contents. Attempting to add a printer (again, a many minute operation) resulted in a ".1" version of the appropriate file in ~Library/Printers.It has been many years since I had to deal with this problem. The Printers folder in Library is appropriately populated. Opening System Preferences and selecting "Printers & Scanners" revealed, after another several minute wait, no devices. After a very long wait, the standard print window appeared but with no printer defaulting and none to select. This morning I attempted to print a browser window. My devices are a Brother laser printer, an HP inkjet printer, and a Dymo label printer. Thank you app developer.Mojave 10.14 (18A391) All Printers Vanished Since I installed Mojave, print functions on all three devices have been working fine. I have installed on 3 other older iMacs running latest Mac OS and they are all working smoothly. I am using latest OS El Capitan 10.11.6 on MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013), Processor 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7. Some users reported error, may be their system is not configured properly or did not install properly. Well, then why not use the feature of “print booklet” built in the indesign or illustrator? Well, they don’t allow you to save the print file as PDF, thats why you’ll use VIPRiser. Basically it doesn’t optimise the images included in your original indesign or illustrator file where as if you use acrobat that does it all. The only thing i don’t like about this app is that when you want to create high resolution file (300 ppi) it creates a large PDF file so, then i have to open that file in adobe acrobat to optimise for 300 ppi to get a normal printable file. For example a A4 size 32 page booklet will have the page combinations such as cover page 32 - 01 and the back of it will be 02 - 31, and so on… This app will do it all by itself. You have to go through lot of pain if you have to do this manually. This is highly useful in creating montage (page orders with front & back) if you have to print a booklet in your office instead of printing press. The most useful feature of this app is (though the developer has not highlighted this!!) that it can let you “print booklet” and save that as PDF on your booklet. I can't believe that such a useful app is made available for free. But it does a great job of what it is made for and does it pretty fast. There is a slight scope for improvement in its user interface, though. It is a “must have tool” for all graphic designers and pre-press. Excellent App though its name “VIPriser” is funny.
